Kona Cliffs: A Small Project with a Big Mission

Kona Cliffs is more than just a bouldering gym—it’s a vision brought to life on the Big Island of Hawaii. With the mission of making climbing accessible to the local community, the project clearly reflects the idea that even small initiatives can have a big impact.

In 2023, Walltopia partnered with the passionate owners of Kona Cliffs to design and deliver a facility that combines world‑class engineering with a welcoming atmosphere. The gym features 1,965 square feet of boulder walls, complemented by climbing holds and safety flooring produced and installed by Walltopia. Every element was carefully crafted to ensure climbers of all levels can enjoy a safe, engaging, and inspiring environment.

This project marks the second bouldering gym that Walltopia has built in Hawaii, reinforcing our commitment to supporting the growth of climbing culture across the islands. By working closely with the owners, we were able to translate their vision into a space that not only meets technical standards but also reflects the spirit of the local community.

Kona Cliffs stands as proof that climbing can thrive anywhere, even in places where the sport is still emerging. The facility provides a unique alternative to traditional fitness routines, offering a fun, social, and empowering way to stay active.
