Walltopia built the climbing walls for the brand-new Recreation & Wellness Center at the University of Pittsburgh, a facility designed to support student health, fitness, and community. The project includes:
- 3026 sq.ft / 281 sqm of rope climbing walls, featuring a crack section for learning and practicing crack climbing techniques
- 1970 sq.ft / 183 sqm of bouldering walls including a small beginner boulder separate from the main structure
- Climbmat safety flooring: BM 400 for bouldering areas and RM 150/6″ CBF mats for rope zones
- An initial selection of holds and volumes supplied through Holdtopia
Adding a climbing wall to a university campus goes beyond sport—it creates opportunities for stress relief, social bonding, and healthy lifestyle habits. Climbing helps students overcome challenges, build resilience, and develop problem-solving skills, all while providing a fun, inclusive activity that welcomes participants of any skill level.
With its mix of rope and boulder terrain, the Pitt Climbing Gym is set to become a vibrant hub where students stay active, connect with peers, and discover the lifelong benefits of climbing.
