We just completed the installation of a new bouldering gym in Southport, UK, delivering a modern climbing environment within a striking historical building.
The project creates a distinctive contrast between classic architecture with ornate detailing and contemporary climbing wall design. Set against old-school red brick, retro decorative elements, and preserved architectural features, the installation blends heritage character with modern performance infrastructure.
The facility features bouldering walls finished in natural wood and unsteppable panels, contributing to a warm, cohesive atmosphere while maintaining clean climbing lines and route-setting flexibility. The natural textures complement the building’s original materials, creating a cosy yet dynamic space for climbers.
For flooring, the gym is equipped with Climbmat BM 300 bouldering mats, ensuring reliable impact protection, durability, and long-term usability in a high-traffic environment.
This project highlights how thoughtful design and material selection can transform a historic space into a contemporary climbing destination while preserving its architectural identity.
