Climbmat Safety Flooring

About Climbmat

Safety flooring is one of the most important components in every climbing gym or active entertainment facility. Choosing the right flooring solution can not only prevent serious injuries, but also save lives.

Walltopia’s first flooring projects date back to 2005 and since then, we have invested a lot in research and development related to climbing and active entertainment safety. In 2012, we founded a new subsidiary, entirely dedicated to flooring solutions – Climbmat. Climbmat produces high quality safety mats for climbing gyms, sports centers and active entertainment facilities worldwide. Our safety flooring is designed to comply with and exceed the international safety standards for playgrounds, sports and climbing facilities. We offer a complete solution including precise measurement, design, manufacturing, delivery, installation and post-sale services. Our mission is to provide a safe climbing and active entertainment environment for the clients of our clients.

Climbmat is founded and run by a team of engineers and the R&D is performed by a PhD physicist.

Rope Walls Mats

Our standard rope wall mats feature a thick layer of heavy open cell polyurethane foam or a combination of a closed cell carpet bonded foam with an open cell foam. They can be designed as a one-piece flooring or separate segments that connect to one another allowing for easy temporary removal of sections. Different product compositions offer a variety of comfort/budget/durability ratio.

One More Life Mats

OML mats take safety to a whole new lavel compared to regular rope wall mats. While regular mats aim to protect falls before the first clip (up to 3m), OML is developed to prevent severe injuries or death in the event of a fall from up to 17 m. They consist of several different layers of protection includint a thick crushable module that absorbs the energy of a fall from over 3m.

One Cover Boulder Mats

Our one cover option features seamless cover over the whole area. It is a very durable solution for large areas as the different foam layers are overlapping. The flooring is non-removable and requires an experienced crew for installation / deinstallation and repair.

Modular Boulder Mats

Our modular option features separate segments connected with PVC vinyl velcro lids, allowing for easy revisions and temporary removal. Advisable solution for small areas, it is easy to install and/or repair even by an unexperienced crew. These mats are weaker on the connection points.

Carpet Top Finish

In recent years, adding carpet on top of the PVC vinyl, regardless of the construction underneath, became the norm. Carpet top finish creates a cosy athmosphere, helps maintain a clean wall and has a very good noise absorbs The combination of vinyl and carpet, combines the pros of both materials, and minimizes the cons.

Composition Variations

Budget Line

The budget line boulder mats are made from low-density polyurethane foam 21-25 kg/m3. The only difference is in the thickness – 30 and 40 cm.

General Info

The Rope Wall Mats we offer are Rope Wall Mats with Modular Padding that can be with or without carpet-top finish and Rope Wall Mats with carpet bonded foam. The difference between the two is that the Rope Wall Mats with Modular Padding are softer for walking and are easily removable for access to the floor; while the Rope Walls Mats with carpet bonded foam are non-removable, but comply to more safety standards.

Although there is no mandatory flooring regulation for climbing-based activities over 5 m, we feel it is our moral obligation to stress on the importance of adding proper matting for climbing-based attractions. Our standard rope wall mats feature a thick layer of heavy open cell polyurethane foam or a combination of a closed cell carpet bonded foam with an open cell foam.

Carpet-bonded Colors

* CFH is the Critical Fall Height, measured as per the tests described in EN1177/ASTM F355. As it is mentioned in the standard, even though the EN1177, CFH test is not an accurate representation of a person falling from a height greater than 3 meters, it could be used to assess the energy absorbing capacity of safety flooring. Thus comparing the different types to one another.
** Depending on the polyurethane foam used.

Safety Zone

At Climbmat we believe that it’s our obligation to take all measures possible for the safety of the climbing gym and entertainment facility visitors. This is why we highly recommend considering a safety zone that extends beyond the requirements of the industry standards (up to the first quickdraw) and covers the entire height of the climbing wall.
